5 March – Ecclesiastes 7:13

Consider the work of God,
For who is able to straighten what He has bent?
Ecclesiastes 7:13

When Hurricane Ivan came through six years ago, it knocked over a tree by school, but most of the root system stayed in the ground.  Although it is parallel to the ground now, it is still living.  It has become the favourite plaything.  The children love to climb on it and pretend it is many different things.  When the Lord moves the school to a new place, we will probably miss that tree a lot.

That tree is an example of something that God “has bent.”  The power of God is incredible.  This same power is at work in our lives as God “bends” us in different ways for His glory.  These events that come in our lives may seem totally unnecessary.  They may seem to defeat the direction that we know God is leading us.  Some bring joy, and some bring sorrow.  The thing to remember is that “God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”  I Corinthians 10:13

This particular tree is a greater blessing to us knocked down than it was upright.  The way the Lord “bends” us will be a greater blessing, and we should not want to “bend” things back.

Let’s trust God to “bend” us in the right ways, and not try to “bend” our lives to suit ourselves.  We will be a greater blessing if we go His way.

Love, Sharlene

1 Thessalonians 2:8
Having so fond an affection for you, [I am] well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also [my] own [life], because you [have] become very dear to [me].
