The Wise Men Who Believed

The second set of visitors were the wise men.  There had to have been at least two, probably there were more.  They came from the east, but we do not know exactly where.  They are mystery men.  The remarkable thing is that they knew God’s Word and believed it.  They saw this particular star and connected it with the promised Messiah.  They also understood that the Messiah was the King as well.  What Scriptures did they study that gave the clues they needed?  Why did they go to Jerusalem instead of Bethlehem which was prophesied as the birthplace?  No one will know, but the part of Scripture that they had they believed.  They saw the child Jesus and worshipped Him.  Their belief in God is also evidenced in the fact that they responded to the vision that God sent and that they went home another way.

Our response to this story should be to believe as well.  Belief in Jesus as the Saviour of the world is the fundamental belief that we need to have.

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved
Acts 16:31a

that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord,
and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved;

Romans 10:9

I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.
2 Timothy 1:12

For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received
the word of God which you heard from us,
you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is,
the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.

1 Thessalonians 2:13

We will never learn who these men really were, but they were men who received great blessings because of their belief in God and His Word.  Considering the spiritual condition of most eastern countries it doesn’t seem as if many people believed like these men.

You can believe as the wise men did.  Believe God’s Word that Jesus is the only way of salvation.  Believe God that His Word is the only means of gaining true success, true peace, true guidance – to name just a few of the blessings that come from believing this way.  You will be blessed personally, and maybe others will believe because of your testimony.
