Keep In the Middle of the Road

Only be strong and very courageous;
be careful to do according to all the law
which Moses My servant commanded you;
do not turn from it to the right or to the left,
so that you may have success wherever you go.

Joshua 1:7

Do not turn from God’s law to go the right or to the left.  Keep right in the middle.  Don’t veer closer to one aspect of culture or towards another. Don’t follow this person’s way of thinking then change to follow another’s way. Keep in the middle and follow God’s law.

If you’re uncertain about what to do, stop and study God’s Word.  Don’t just follow what someone is saying.  If you do listen to or read what a person says, check their Scriptural support.  Look up the verses they use for yourself, read them in context of the passage.  Is this person you are listening to, following God’s Word or his own thinking? If the person’s thinking is based on Scripture, then his words may help you to understand God’s Word more.  But keep God’s Word as your focus.

The beauty of following God’s Word instead of man’s words is that you will have success.  God wants you to know His will and to follow it.

These things I have written to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God,
so that you may know that you have eternal life.

1 John 5:13

Your testimonies are wonderful;
Therefore my soul observes them.
The unfolding of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:129-130

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth,
but you shall meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it;
for then you will make your way prosperous,
and then you will have success.

Joshua 1:8
