Love – Important

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
but do not have love
I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy,
and know all mysteries and all knowledge;
and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains,
but do not have love,
I am nothing.
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor,
and if I surrender my body to be burned,
but do not have love,
it profits me nothing.
I Corinthians 13:1-3

Love is very important.  Even if we do important and noble things, without love we are really accomplishing nothing.  This love that is so necessary is a self-sacrificing kind.  The kind that focuses on the other person instead of ourself.  Love that desires that the other person is helped and improved.  Love like Jesus demonstrates for us.  That is a love that is extremely valuable.  When it is missing, everything seems empty and worthless.

It is possible to get this kind of love.  It is freely given, so that you can also freely give.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16

By this the love of God was manifested in us,
that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world
so that we might live through Him.
In this is love,
not that we loved God, but that He loved us
and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
I John 4:9-11
