Bugs. You may have a dislike or something worse concerning insects. My father studied insects as part of his doctoral work. Because of his interest in insects, I learned to be intrigued with them as well. I do not like mosquitoes, can’t stand cockroaches, and do not want ants inside.
Insects are fascinating. Butterflies and moths can be very beautiful. Their colours are so varied and surprising. In one house we lived in, we had moths with 6 -7 inch wing spans rest on our walls. They were brown in several hues, but the underside of the wings had spots of blue. Something that seemed so plain was stunning in flight.
Blue-bottle and green-bottle flies can be so pretty in the sun. We don’t have that kind of fly here. We do have a beetle that is a pretty iridescent blue-green.
We have long-horned beetles here that squeak if you accidentally sit on them. I sat on one once, and its squeak made my heart jump.
When I was small, my family lived in Texas. The dragonflies there were beautiful in blue, green, yellow, and orange. We have dragonflies here, but they are mostly all black. If the sun shines on them just right, they have an iridescent shine.
Another childhood favourite activity was chasing fireflies. There fireflies here have brilliant lights, but they mainly stay in the bushes. It is very difficult to catch them, but they make the bushes like they are decorated with lights.
God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.
God, who is so wise and clever as to make so many different kinds of insects, is surely a God who is wise and clever enough to help us. We can depend on Him.
Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
