Reading the Bible

Here are some reasons for reading the Bible:

1.  To know God – The only way we have to get to know God is by reading the words that He said.  The only place that we can find His words is in the Bible.  The

That they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord,
Are the Most High over all the earth.
Psalm 83:18

2. To grow spiritually – Reading the Bible gives us spiritual food and helps us spiritually.  The spiritual aspect of our being is more important than the physical.  We need to feed it just as earnestly.

grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
2 Peter 3:18

3.  To teach others –  The best way to learn something is to teach it.  What you learn about God teach to someone else.  Show others what you read in the Bible and share the truth of God.

The things which you have heard from me
in the presence of many witnesses,
entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

2 Timothy 2:2

4.  To combat error – The error to combat is wrong thinking about God.  Reading the Bible will help you to know who God is, what He does, and what He expects us to do.  The truth about God is only found in the Bible.

The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,
with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition,
if perhaps God may grant them repentance
leading to the knowledge of the truth,
and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil,
having been held captive by him to do his will.

2 Timothy 2:24-26

but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts,
always being ready to make a defense to everyone
who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you,
yet with gentleness and reverence

1 Peter 3:15

These are just some reasons for reading the Bible.  Read the whole book once and read it again.  As you read, you will notice your understanding of God and your position before Him will increase.  God is so great that you cannot learn all there is to know of Him no matter how many times you read the Bible.  Only a great God is able to help, and He is worth knowing.
