X for eXcell

I start alphabet posts about a year ago.  My slowness has been because of many other things happening and because I had a hard time thinking of words for some of the letters.  X is one letter that I was having trouble with until I read 1 Thessalonian 4:1.

Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus,
that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk
and please God (just as you actually do walk),
that you eXcel still more.

I want to excel.  I would like to be more Christ-like, so I studied this passage to see what help I could receive for excelling.
Sanctification, being set apart for God, is important.
Abstain from sexual immorality.
Know how to possess your own body in sanctification and honour, which is self-control with a much better focus than just self.
Do not sin against or defraud someone, but leave the situation in God’s hands.
Love one another.

But we urge you, brethren, to eXcel still more
1 Thessalonians 4:10b

Lead a quiet life.
Attend to your own business, which means don’t be a gossip or a person who likes to know what everyone else is doing.
Work with your hands, in other words don’t be lazy.
Behave properly towards outsiders seems to imply not being hypocritical.
Look for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Use God’s Word to comfort each other.

These are just a few things that will help us to eXcel.  Read your Bible and learn more.
